Interiors – Retail
Berik Retail Store, Hongkong

Italian clothing Brand ‘Berik’ briefed us to create a graphical space for their concept stores in Hongkong. We translated the great Italian literature of Dante’s Divine Comedy, an epic poem (1308) written by Dante Alighieri into an interior installation.

The design approach was to redefine the conventions of Dante’s description of Inferno (Hell) and Paradiso(Heaven). It also reflects on the general perception of our society about the endless desire for perfection that is represented by beautiful ‘heaven’ and notions about sufferings that is represented by not so beautiful ‘hell’.

Graphics are playful, yet sinister and they question the irony of beautiful. Abstract illustrations include an empty chair, shifting pillars, a never-ending staircase, and ornamented floral maze. The installation included series of graphic pillars designed as entrance to hell, a floral landscape as beatrice garden and a visually shifting wall depicting the heaven.

Using an old classic literature and translating it into visual brand interiors was a great experience. The story telling of journey from hell to heaven created a dramatic visual experience for the shoppers.
